Digital technologies to boost agriculture development
*
Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel has said that the development and application of digital technologies can change the manner of work and organization in the field of agriculture, which is why young people should be encouraged to pursue innovations and apply smart solutions.

At a meeting with senior government representatives in charge of agriculture from 70 different countries, including a delegation from Montenegro, she said that the development of digital technologies was expected to boost productivity and improve access to the markets.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Montenegro says in a press release that the meeting with Merkel was organized during the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture in Berlin, focusing on digitalization as a response to global challenges in agriculture.

The press release says this was the first meeting Merkel had with participants in the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture, held during the International Green Week - world's largest exhibition of food, agriculture and horticulture.

According to Merkel, agriculture has a long tradition and takes an important place in the economies of all countries.

She said that farmers shared the same problems all over the world, adding that it was important to examine the possibility of finding a sustainable way to use the available resources for food production and a solution to the hunger problem.

Merkel argued that digitalization had considerable potential to address the shared challenges.

At the Forum, the Montenegrin delegation will attend an event focusing on the agricultural trade potentials of the Western Balkans.

The State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Djuro Zugic, will speak at the event, organized by German Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group in South Eastern Europe (SWG).
