Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Network for Affirmation of NGO Sector (MANS) has filed criminal charges against Speaker of Parliament Ivan Brajovic and the unknown persons who participated in the preparation and contracting of construction of the motorway section between Podgorica and Matesevo.

The NGO says that the criminal charges were filed because of the suspected abuse of authority to the detriment of the state budget, which suffered the damage of approximately €134 million or around 2.5 percent of Montenegro's gross domestic product (GDP).

"The criminal charges, which were filed with the special prosecutor, accuse Brajovic and other government officials of abusing their authority and failing to fulfil their obligation to envisage a series of additional contract when preparing the contract," says MANS.

According to MANS, the priority motorway section, which is 42.5 kilometres long, will cost around €1.3 billion, €300 million more than announced five years ago.

The NGO reminds that the loan for motorway construction was contracted in dollars, without any protection from the currency exchange differences, which has resulted in additional costs.
