Card use is an indicator of financial literacy

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Director of MasterCard Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina Jelena Ristic has said that the fact that 78 percent of payment card holders use cards rather than cash for payments above €25 is a positive indicator of the level of financial literacy of Montenegrin consumers.

“The use of electronic payment option brings benefits for the market and society in general, improves the user experience and promotes the participation in global economy. The whole payment ecosystem is easier, faster, safer and more transparent, and conducive to the development of new business activities leading to a greater financial inclusion,” Ristic said, presenting the results of a MasterIndex survey for Montenegro.

Today, MasterCard presented the results for the first ever MasterIndex survey on Montenegro, which focuses on financial habits of active cardholders in the country.

“The survey confirmed that the cardholders appreciated simplicity, convenience, security and speed of payments made by card,” said Ristic.

MasterCard says that the survey, carried out in April on a representative sample of citizens, showed that payment cards have become a regular part of the commercial activities, with 81 percent respondents saying that they use cards on weekly basis, while 60 percent of them use cards every or almost every day.
