Fiscal consolidation measures must continue

Becici, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Finance Darko Radunovic has said that the fiscal consolidation and work on structural reforms should be continued in order to see budget surplus next year and set the public debt on a downward path.

At a panel on the stability of public finance and economic growth, held at the summit of the governors, finance minister and heads of tax administration, organized in Becici, he said that the economic reforms focused on combating the informal economy, which was a common problem shared by all countries in the region.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance, Radunovic said that the cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) in the field of fiscal consolidation was of great importance for Montenegro.

He also reminded of the importance of the reports and assessments by the IMF and WB for the international investment position of a country, i.e. obtaining the funds necessary to manage the public debt.

The challenges shared by the countries in the region in the event of a slowdown in the economic growth in Europe and possibility of generating fiscal reserves were discussed at the panel of the finance ministers.

The summit in Becici was organized by the Serbian Association of Economists and the weekly magazine NIN, under the institutional aegis of the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and the Tax Administration.
