DPS is offering elections till the end of March and immediately after that the referendum

The Democratic party of socialists offered to the other parliamentary parties yesterday the discussion on holding the early parliamentary elections till the end of March and signing the agreement that would oblige the new parliament majority after those elections to schedule the referendum on the state status of Montenegro. This proposal of DPS was announced by the vice president of this party Svetozar Marovic at yesterday’s meeting of the representatives of the parliamentary groups in the Montenegrin parliament.
“The elections would be held in line with the existing laws and rules on media presentation of the parliamentary parties before the elections. The new authorities would have an obligation of scheduling the referendum where the Montenegrin citizens would give their opinion on the state status of Montenegro in period predicted by the law on referendum. It means that the parliament in this convocation would, with as greater level of concordance as possible, adopt the law on referendum worked on by the group consisting of several parliamentary parties. The new parliamentary convocation would make decision on scheduling the referendum, it would establish the date of holding the referendum and the referendum question”, said Dragan Djurovic, the chief of the DPS parliamentary group after the meeting in the Parliament adding that this was not the firm attitude of DPS only the contemplation of the people in the top of the party.
Djurovic said that DPS decided to make this proposal because the coalition “To live a better life, left by the People’s party, is pre-electoral and not the post-electoral, and having in mind that all the political misunderstandings were best resolved by elections.
According to him, the option of minority government, consisting of DPS and SDP and supported by the liberals, to remain still exists and it would prepare the referendum without previous holding the elections.
If SNP as the most powerful opposition party accepts the proposal of the DPS then, according to Vijesti information, the special session of the parliament is to be held till the end of January and the decision on shortening the MP’s mandates is to be made. The Montenegrin president Milo Djukanovic would then schedule the elections for the end of March.
We are accepting the elections but not in the period proposed
“The socialist people’s party has always been interceding in favour of elections being held before the referendum. This way our demands are fulfilled. However, the proposal the new parliament majority to schedule the referendum is something new. I have said that the SNP is to make suitable decisions with its organs that are only competent of making decision on these issues. It is certain that we are to accept the decision on holding the early elections, probably not in the period proposed by the DPS. The SNP is to give the final word on it at the session of the Main board, which is probably to be held in the beginning of the next week”, said Predrag Bulatovic, the vice president of the SNP.
We are sticking to the demand the media to be democratised
“The people’s party has nothing against the elections. We think that the elections are needed concerning the fact that he coalition government has lost on its legitimacy by the People’s party leaving the coalition so the only democratic and right way is scheduling the elections. The only problematic thing is period of holding the elections. I cannot inform you now on the attitudes of my party since we are having the session of the Main board only on 14 January. We are not against the referendum but we are sticking to our demand media to be democratised in order to provide fair an democratic conditions for holding the referendum”, said Dejan Vucicevic the chief of the People’s party parliamentary group.
We do not need the elections but if SNP accepts, we shall accept it to
“DPS has given the Christmas proposal to the parties and to the citizens in a certain way. This is the chance the peace to be established in Montenegro and all the excuses for hearing the democratic answer of the Montenegrin citizens to be avoided. This is an intact offer that gives the possibility both to those interceding in favour of elections as well as to those interceding in favour of referendum. We think that the elections are not needed but we shall support any agreement with the aim of reaching the complete peace. If DPS as the most powerful party reaches the agreement with SNP we shall accept that agreement”, said Ranko Krivokapic the vice president of the SDP.
