2.1 The Links.cfg file

[Version 0.82]

Page contents

2.1.1 The links.cfg file

If you are running Links, you are might be aware that a sub-directory ("$HOME/.links") was created in your home directory for Links-related runtime files. The configuration file is called ".links.cfg".

The file is used by the Setup submenu system to write any changes you have made to your settings in the current session (i.e. whenever you select "Save options"). If you decide to edit the file by hand in a text editor, you will need to restart Links before the new settings are read.

    A few things to note:

    • Empty lines in the links.cfg file are ignored.
    • Comments are not permitted (i.e. lines beginning with # or ").
    • Any erroneous entries (e.g. unrecognised options or syntax errors) will cause a warning to be written to the screen the next time you start Links.
    • If you've done a lot of configuration work in the file, make sure you make a backup copy.

2.1.2 Configuration options in Links.cfg

This is merely a summary of the valid Links variables which can be placed in the Links.cfg file. For more explanation, see the manual reference links.
